English: Statue of Randy Turpin in Warwick Square Randolph Adolphus Turpin ('Randy Turpin') was known as The Leamington Licker and was a deaf English boxer who became World Champion in the 1950's. He beat Sugar Ray Robinson in a 15 round fight in London on 10 July 1951, though was subsequently stripped of his title by the same boxer 2 months later.
This statue in Warwick square commemorates Randy the local hero who was born in Leamington Spa. |
