Description
English: A statue of Statue of São Vicente de Albufeira which is located on Largo Jacinto D'Ayet, Albufeira, Algarve, Portugal. Vicente Simões de Carvalho was born in Albufeira castle in 1590. A talented child his parents sent him to Lisbon to be educated. He excelled and took up an ecclesiastical career and he was ordained a priest at age 27. In 1523 he travelled to Japan as a missionary. He preaching the Gospel and administered the sacraments to the local population of Nagasaki. He also travelled extensively through Spain , Mexico and the Philippines. Returning to Japan he was martyred on the 3 September of 1623. He was beatified in the Catholic Church by Pope Pius IX on the 7 July of 1867.
