English: The statue was made in France and brought in Romania in 1876. It was installed in the Liberty Square in Ploiesti after the 1877-1878 war, and it was unveiled on June 11, 1881, on a pedestal made by architect Toma N. Socolescu. The artwork, cast in galvanized bronze, has a height of 3.5 m. It represents the goddess Minerva as a symbol of freedom, carrying attributes that suggest that freedom sometimes needs to be defended in battle. In the pedestal’s foundation is embedded a bottle with a parchment placed inside, explaining the history of the statue, and carrying a lot of signatures. In the pedestal are imbedded also several Romanian coins. The monument was restored in 1903 and has an inscription reading: "To the citizens of Ploiesti – The defenders of the public freedoms - Grateful Romania."
