Summary
editDescriptionStealth's ride theming at Thorpe Park - geograph.org.uk - 145492.jpg |
English: Stealth's ride theming at Thorpe Park. This truck and trailer are part of the new theming for Stealth, new for 2006. The trailer houses WWTP, the radio station that's beamed via tannoy around the Amity Cove area of the theme park and throughout the ride's queue. Usually this is a pre-recorded loop but during busy days, there's actually a small studio behind the first hatch (here closed) where a live DJ can make dedications and comments about passers by. The second open hatch sells ride souvenirs. Other things of interest include the ride's control room (to the right of the trailer) and also the ride's non-contact magnetic braking system can be seen on the launch track. These are dropped using hydraulic pistons during the ride's launch and are immediately raised in case the train fails to reach the top of the top-hat, causing roll-back, where the train is braked as it re-enters the station. This is something eagerly desired by enthusiasts as you effectively get two rides - the train is reset and relaunched, but with the complex computer controlled launch mechanism, this rarely happens. A similar set of fixed brakes are aligned on the other side of the ride's tower which slow the ride down after the 80 mph launch. See 139055 for the ride's 205ft top-hat tower. |
