Aveling and Porter type R10 steamroller preceded by a red flag

Summary edit

Description
English: Aveling and Porter type R10 steamroller (1901), weight 10 tons, in action at the Rural Life Centre, Tilford. The person preceding the steamroller in this image is reminiscent of the Locomotive Act of 1861 (repealed 1896) which limited the speed of any mechanical road vehicle to 4 mph (6.4 km/h) and required that a man carrying a red flag should precede the vehicle.
