| Description |
Nederlands: De Stefanuskerk te Zoelen, genoemd naar de eerste martelaar, werd in de 15e eeuw gebouwd. Het schip van de kerk is in Nederrijnse stijl opgetrokken uit baksteen. De muren werden witgepleisterd. Hier en daar steunen beren de muren van de kerk. Voor de bouw van de toren werd ook baksteen gebruikt. Vervolgens werden de torenmuren met tufsteen bekleed. De 36 meter hoge toren steekt hoog boven het landschap uit. De klok die nu in de toren hangt, is in 1950 gegoten. Ze draagt het opschrift "Ik treur over de doden en roep de levenden tot hun God'. Deze klok vervangt de klok uit 1924, die in 1943 door de Duitsers is weggehaald. De preekstoel werd in 1641 vervaardigd. De kanselbijbel dateert uit 1657. In de kerk hangt een rouwbord uit 1603. Bij restauratiewerkzaamheden werden graven gevonden van de families Vijgh en Pieck. Deze families bewoonden in resp. 17e en 18e eeuw het kasteel van Zoelen. Het orgel werd in 1895 gebouwd door de orgelbouwfamilie Van Dam. |
