Description
English: High quality stele for Amasis, a high priest from Memphis dedicated to the cult of Ptah, Nut, Mut, Sekhmet and the deceased queen Arsinoe II. The priest is depicted making libations in front of a sitting Osiris. The inscription unusually ends with the date of death and mummification of Amasis (july 28, 183 BCE). Limestone (cm 52 x 32) from the Memphite necropolis, Year 22 of Ptolemy V Epiphanes (183 BCE), Ptolemaic period. Archeological Museum of Bologna (Italy), Palagi (Nizzoli) coll., EG 1943.
Italiano: Pregevole stele per Amasis, un alto sacerdote menfita addetto al culto di Ptah, Nut, Mut, Sekhmet e della defunta regina Arsinoe II. Il sacerdote è qui rappresentato nell'atto di compiere libagioni davanti ad Osiride seduto. L'iscrizione termina insolitamente con la data di morte e mummificazione di Amasis (28 luglio 183 a.C.).
