Im Jahr 1942 wurden an dieser Stelle in Heinsberg und Umgebung lebende jüdische Mitbürger in einer alten, verkommenen Gerberei unter qualvollen Bedingungen zusammengepfercht. Sie haben gelitten, gefroren und gehungert. Der Ausgang war ihnen lediglich in der Zeit von 14.00 bis 16.00 Uhr gestattet. Am Sonntag, dem 22. März 1942 wurden sie frühmorgens vom Bahnhof Heinsberg aus zunächst in ein Lager bei Eschweiler, Kreis Aachen und irgendwann, der Zeitpunkt ist nicht bekannt, in die Vernichtungslager gebracht. Hier verliert sich ihre Spur. Sie haben kein Todesdatum und kein Grab.
