Description

Stephan Stephansson was an Icelandic poet who lived in the Markerville area in the late 1800's. His house was restored to its 1927 appearance, the year that Stephan Stephansson passed away. There are numerous period artifacts including a functioning Brunswick phonograph. I had never heard such a sound in my life, but our interpretive guide was kind enough to play a bit of music for me.

His poetry is relatively well known (I don't read that sort of thing), and there's been a biography written about him that you can order through Amazon. There is a momument erected in his honour at his birthplace in Iceland. The Writer's Guild of Alberta had established an annual prize called the Stephan G. Stephansson Award for Poetry.
