Description
English: Stepping stones across the estuary These ancient stepping stones that become visible at low tide are reputed to be part of the pilgrims' way to St David's along the valley of the Afon Nyfer. There was a bridge here in the Middle Ages, but according to tradition it was removed in the 1600’s to prevent an epidemic from reaching the town from Nevern parish. Until 1894, when the present bridge was built, the stepping stones were used at low tide and a ferry boat operated when the tide was high. The mudflats here are a favourite haunt of herons, egrets and other wading birds.
