Summary

Description
English: Stickings Lock on the river Irwell, c1850. This print, by W Morten, shows the tail of the lock, which gave access to the cut made in 1832. Two horses, used for hauling Mersey Flats, stand in the foreground and the driver is riding on the leading horse. The tall post is a hauling post, fitted with a roller, that guides the towline around the sharp bend in the river.
