Nematode worm from the subfamily Stilbonematinae (family Desmodoridae), found in coastal sediments of Okinawa, Japan. The worms are covered in a layer of ectosymbiotic bacteria (except at the head region), which are responsible for their whitish appearance. Footage acquired by Brandon Seah at Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) Marine Science Station (OMSS) in Nov 2017. Fieldwork was performed by Yui Sato and Brandon Seah, while employed at the Dubilier lab, Max Planck Institute of Marine Microbiology. |
