English: A set of Stockbridge dampers (hanging weights) on power transmission lines north of Fresno, CA. These prevent wind-induced vertical vibrations of the line, often observed as a "singing" sound from suspended power lines, which can cause structural wear. The dampers are installed at the first node of the vibration on either side of the insulator. |
