Summary

Description
English: Stone carvings on the clock tower Hard to credit that all this fussy Victorian fake-mediaeval flummery was commissioned, and paid for, by the townsfolk in honour of the coming-of-age in 1873 of Charles Stewart Vane-Tempest, Viscount Castlereagh, of Plas Machynlleth, the local 'big house'. Owain Glyndwr, who bravely raised his standard against the English invaders and called together a Welsh parliament here in 1404, must have been revolving in his grave (the whereabouts of which is unknown).
