| Description |
English: Stony Marl Moor View of the moor taken shortly after the fire in 2003 which devastated the moor north of the Lyke Wake route. The path here is actually the route of an old tramway which conveyed ganister from quarries on the moor to the railway at Ravenscar (via an incline). The fire revealed discarded old rails and steel sleepers which had been lost amongst the heather.
Thankfully the moor is starting to recover thanks in part to techniques learnt after the disastrous Wheeldale fire in 1976. |
