Summary edit

Description
English: Stop Lock at Autherley Junction, Wolverhampton The junction is where, in 1830, Thomas Telford built the Birmingham and Liverpool Canal (now Shropshire Union) to join James Brindley's 1772 Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal. The stop lock (usually) only has a drop of about six inches (15cm) and was demanded by the older canal company to prevent the newer one "stealing" their water. I have known the levels to be equal when the Shroppie is low when the Staffs and Worcs is full.
