Description
English: This image, acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-3 satellites on 7 December 2021 at 11:04 UTC, shows Storm Barra over Ireland and the UK. Storm Barra is the second storm of the season to be named by the Met Office and Irish Meteorological Service. The storm has caused widespread flooding, and thousands of people have been left without power. Storm Barra’s powerful winds have been so intense (135km/h gusts were recorded on Sherkin Island on the day this image was acquired), that the Irish Meteorological Service issued multiple red warnings. The Copernicus Sentinel-3 satellite captures images with a daily revisit that enables us to expand our scientific knowledge of atmospheric composition and gather essential information for climate studies and weather forecasting.
