English: Double-ended LOWAstyle Gotha ET55 tram nr 39 was working the main route 1 south along Bahnhofstrasse to the Hauptbahnhof. Normally this route was operated by articulated Tatra KT4D or Gotha GT trams.
Two years previously it was still wearing the cream and red livery which used to be standard in this undertaking. Subsequently yellow denoted the Waldbahn and Blue the town services. www.tram-info.de/wagenp/gotha.htm today 39 is retained in the historic wagenpark in Gotha This type of tram from VEB Waggonbau Gotha was known as a precursor, being the ET54 or 55. A list of all those made and their town of service is found on this informative page although they are not to be found on the pages of towns in Germany which used Gotha made trams. Not sure why. perhaps because , as the site says, there were four sites of tram production in the DDR in 1949, including Werdau and Ammendorf, under the VVB (Vereinigung von Volkseigener Betriebe) LOWA (Lokomotiv- und Wagen and only in 1954 did Gotha become the sole manufacturer of East German trams, of the same pattern as in the VVB LOWA days, as here on this ET55, redesignated from ET54. |
