Description Insignia of the U.S. Navy Strike Fighter Squadron 27 (VFA-27) "Chargers". The insignia was approved on 6 June 1991. This CNO approval was for the modification of the squadron designation in the banner from Attack Squadron 27 to Strike Fighter Squadron 27. The squadron had adopted the new nickname "Chargers" upon its redesignation to VFA-27 but adopted the original "Royal Maces" again in January 1996.
