Description Statue of Major-General Stringer Lawrence (1697-1775), dressed as a Roman general, in the centre of the ground floor of the triangular Lawrence Tower (alias Haldon Belvedere), on the Haldon Estate, statue and tower erected in 1788 by his friend and protege Sir Robert Palk, 1st Baronet (1717-1798) of Haldon House, Dunchideock, Devon. On the wall behind is one of three large tablets inscribed with details of his career
