Summary

edit
Description Coat of arms of Sturgeon family of Whepstead, Suffolk: Azure, three sturgeons naiant in pale or over all fretty gules (Burke, Sir Bernard, The General Armory, London, 1884, p.984, omitting "over all"). The fretty is shown overall on an old stained glass window in All Saints, Narborough, Norfolk, depicting heraldry of the Spilman family. File:All Saints church - C16 heraldic glass - geograph.org.uk - 1638060.jpg. Blazoned by Farrer as Azure fretty gules, three sturgeons naiant in pale or (Source: Farrer, Edmund, Church Heraldry of Norfolk, Vol 1 (1885), p.79[1]), incorrectly, as fretty is not shown in the stained glass as the field, but overall, i.e. above the charges, presumably intended as a fishing net.
