English: Sun conures are found in parts of South America. They are mainly found in the northern part of South America, Venezuela, northern Brazil and Guyana. These birds are often found in tropical and subtropical areas, although they can be found in the arid rain forests of the savanna and coastal forests.

This tree-loving species prefers masses of palm trees and fruit-bearing trees. These make up their own home, as well as much of their food. The bird was imported and traded in the United States for many years, until its importation was banned in 1992. They were banned in the EU in 2007.

Even if the work is banned, about 800,000 of these birds are still trapped each year. They are endangered species in the wild, currently considered endangered. Part of this is due to the pet trade, and part of it is the loss of housing.
