Summary edit

Description

This pedestrian bridge, which spans the Sacramento River, is a fairly new addition to Redding, and has become the city's landmark. It was designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, who took inspirations from the local terrain which reminded him of his hometown Valencia. The bridge was opened on 4 July 2004. The bridge deck is made of 2,245 glass decks.

Redding is a quick dinner stop. I had left Portland, Oregon in the early afternoon, and I would drive overnight through Central Valley and arrive in Los Angeles just before dawn, in time to beat the morning rush hour. This marks the end of my two-week odyssey, which had had me head north from Southern California along I-15 to Yellowstone before visiting the Canadian Rockies, then returning south from Vancouver along I-5.
