Description
English: Exposing the (001) surface of a semiconductor material results in two dangling bonds per atom. Reorganising surface atoms pairs up some of the dangling bonds, lowering the overall energy, but giving rise to some surface strain. Regular lines represent electron pairs and dashed lines represent a single electron (dangling bond).
Deutsch: Die (001) Fläche eines Halbleitermaterials hat zwei nicht abgesättigte Bindungen pro Flächenatom. Umordnung der Atome kann einzelne Elektronen zusammen paaren und damit die Energie verringern, wobei die Flächenatome sich verschieben. Durchgezogene Linien repräsentieren Elektronpaare, gestrichelte Linien repräsentieren unabgesättigte Bindungen.
Nederlands: Het (001) vlak van een halfgeleider heeft twee ongepaarde electronen per atoom. Door de oppervlakteatomen anders te rangschikken kan de energie verlaagd worden door elektronen te paren terwijl de oppervlakteatomen in een ongunstigere positie komen. Doorgetrokken lijnen representeren elektronparen, gestreepte lijnen representeren ongepaarde elektronen.
