English: This photograph appeared on Mainichi Shinbun, a Japanese daily newspaper, published on 16 August, 1945, which explained these people appologized that they were short of their loyalty to the Emperor so that Japan defeated. This picture was famous in Japan before and often referred but nowadays it is known to be a faked photo. Effectively the picture was taken in the afternoon on 14 August, 1945, not on 15 August, 1945, when the surrender of Japan was officially announced to the nation. Besides they did not kneel on the ground voluntarily but just accepted the requirement by a photographer of the newspaper. |
