Description
English: Sydney ferry KANGAROO at Milsons Point circa 1900 or 1901. Commentary by David Critchley: Sydney, Milson's Point c1901. A steam hauled train consisting of end loading 'American' carriages and a sole swing-door carriage leaves Milson's Point Railway Station on a journey up the North Shore Railway in the early part of the century. The train is being hauled by a M40 Class 4-4-2 inside-cylinder tank locomotive, one of 15 loco's of the class built by Beyer Peacock in 1891. The Class was later reclassified as the 11 Class in the 1924 renumbering.

Adjacent to the loco is one of the small inner harbour ferries 'Kangaroo (II)' moored at what looks like a coal loading point. The Ferry has a large sign for 'Neutral Bay' hanging on the top deck railing and it's control cabins are flush with the top deck under the awning.

Although posted in 1912, the image is at least 11 years old by this point as the original Fort at Bennelong Point is still in existence and there is no sign of the Tram Depot that replaced it. Fort Macquarie Depot was opened during 1902.
Date circa 1900 or 1901
