Description
English: After infection with the fungus Entomóphthora múscae, hoverflies as well as other flies die in these positions on various plants. Infection of flies is expressed in straightened paws, standing parallel to the body of the wings and swollen abdomen. The intersegmental membranes of the swollen abdomen give the corpse a characteristic pattern. The preferred site of the fungus is the oral cavity, through which it enters the fly. The disease is transmitted through direct contact of a healthy fly with an infected carcass of another fly.
