Downtown, Halifax, Nova Scotia. Located on Barrington Street, Government House is the official residence of the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia - and when the Queen of England visits Halifax, as she did in 1959, 1976, 1994 and 2010, this is where she lives too. Built in 1805, it's the oldest official government residence in North America, and the only one in Canada to be located in a downtown setting - though, as can be seen here, the gardens surrounding it confer a bit of privacy and tranquility. It's been registered as a heritage property by the Nova Scotia government due to its historical importance and the majesty of its Georgian-style architecture.
