Additional Notes First, a list of ways to become involved in the struggle for justice in the Middle East. Then, upcoming local events. Next, a chilling summary of current events in Palestine. Finally, we proceed with introduction and phone interview with our special guest, Mr. Mohammad Bakri.
Mr. Bakri's distinguished, and prolific, career spans over 20 years of acting in, or producing and directing, such plays, films and documentaries as: "The Pessoptimist," "The Anchor," "Season of Migration to the North," "Abu Marmar," "Rami og Julie," "The Tale of the Three Jewels," "Sous les Pieds des Femmes," "Desperado Square," "Samir and Yonothan," "A View from the Bridge," "Jenin Jenin," "A Day in our Time," "Private," and "Since You Left." His films have earned him Academy Awards, a Best Film Award at the 2002 Carthage International Film Festival, and the International Prize for Documentary Filmmaking and Reporting.
Astoundingly, Mr. Bakri is being sued by five Israeli soldiers, as a result of which he, and his family, risk losing their home. Mr. Bakri now urgently needs financial help to pay for his defense.
Mr. Bakri is currently in New York where he will be spending a few days before coming to Boston to attend the First Boston Film Festival. You can meet him at the Festival Opening Party Saturday, September 29, at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at 8:30 pm. Tickets for the Party can be purchased by calling: (617) 369-3306. You can also meet Mr. Bakri the following day, on Sunday, September 30, at 3 pm at the Kendall Cinema where he will be attending the screening of "Private," and at 5 pm when his films "Jenin Jenin" and "Since you Left" will be shown. We highly recommend these films to our listeners.
Mr. Bakri joins us from New York City.
