Summary edit

Description
English: Tactiles and a drop kerb seen in Newmarket, Auckland, New Zealand. The right-hand tactiles are directional, so they can be spotted on the pavement by someone with, say, a cane. They then direct you to the crossing point. Their utility is apparently a bit under dispute in disability circles. This example of the tactiles overall is also interesting, because Auckland Transport apparently don't like to place them anymore unless the crossing is signalised (sucks if you are disabled, but can't find the next signal 2km away!) and because they are "prettily" gray-coloured like the paver slabs. Looks fancy, but doesn't match the requirement for the tactiles to be highly visible (colour / contrast). Then again, many urban designers hate the tactiles for the visual effects they have on paving anyway, so yellow colour is all out for them anyway! A real minefield...
