Something there about the economics of food production and the explosion of eating out in the post-war era. Sbarro is a global chain that's about the same age - selling New York-style pizza since opening in Bensonhurst in 1956. It's become a bit of a watchword for generic Italian fast food (I'm sure I've heard the name in a TV comedy setting). It's a franchise operation - you'll find them in airports and shopping malls all over the place (including the UK). The company regularly seems to go bankrupt only to be reformed and rebranded.
