Description
English: Al-Tahtib or the art of fencing with a stick is one of the ancient and ancient arts.. It is an authentic Egyptian art and a pure Egyptian heritage..

It was invented by the ancient Egyptian five thousand years ago and more.. Its forms and inscriptions varied on the walls of temples and ancient tombs in ancient Egypt. In Giza Governorate, its rules and laws were drawn as an art of martial arts on the inscriptions found in the archaeological area of Abu Sir, which is located half the distance between the pyramids Giza and the pyramids of Saqqara, as they were discovered in the research of the Egyptologist Zahi Hawass, which resulted in scientific publications, and the history of these explorations dates back to the year 1994 AD when Zahi Hawass discovered the remains of King Sahore II of the Fifth Dynasty. The inscriptions he disclosed were on horizontal lines in a series of many groups of physical activities. Below, we find archery, and in the second line we find al-Tahteeb, and in the third line we find wrestling. These magnificent inscriptions are the illustrative theatre for the coaches and their young disciples, it is the first double title that reveals the prominent position of the tahtib on the board of physical activities in ancient Egypt between archery and wrestling. The tahtib was the most distinguished on the walls of the royal pyramids and many temples, and therefore the tahtib was not related to a particular social group. It was practiced by kings, princes, soldiers and common people, and seniority in practice is due to the difference in time.

While the tahtib appears as a ceremonial art in the era of the modern state 1500-1000 BC on the archaeological walls in the areas of Luxor and Saqqara, and archaeological inscriptions were also found in the areas of the tombs of Bani Hassan and Tuna al-Jabal in Minya governorate during the era of the eleventh and twelfth dynasties. Inscriptions were found in the Medinet Habu temple, which was built by King Ramses III in the era of the Twentieth Dynasty of the New Kingdom 1183-1152 BC, depicting a group of soldiers jousting with sticks. Some men joust with sticks.

Al-Tahtib is a martial art of using the stick to achieve the physical and mental perfection of a person. The art of tahtib, through its technical and rhythmic means that has developed throughout its very long history, brings a positive and harmonious energy to the fencers and the audience alike. In the art of tahteeb, there are strong potentials of contribution on the social and cultural levels in Egypt and abroad.

Types of tahtib: The art of tahtib is currently practiced in different ways: • The first type: a folkloric dance, and this type is practiced by men and women and has multiple forms, the most famous of which is the Nazawi dance. It differs in performance from the rest of the dances and has its own rhythm and music. The movement of the dancer with his foot and stick is completely consistent and consistent with the sound of rhythm and music. One person in this dance, but the best and most beautiful thing to do is practiced by a group of no less than five people, and also: one of the famous dances is the dance of the creative artist Mahmoud Reda and his well-known band, which depends mainly on good performance and beauty of movement, regardless of the rules of tahteeb and without adhering to its origins, these dances are The stick is light and decorated, and its length is 90 cm, with the exception of the Al-Nazawi dance, where the length of the stick is not less than 120 cm. • The second type: sport and technique for self-defense, and this type appears skill in cases of self-defense, and it has its own laws, its law is good planning, speed of decision-making, strength and control and its movements are studied and calculated carefully and with great accuracy, the appropriate stick length for this art is 180 cm , it is not accompanied by playing instruments and enthusiastic music except in competitions or tournaments, and this type also: no two disagree that it is a martial art. • The third type: it has many and many names, including: the game of men - the game of integrity - the stick game - the game of soo - stick fencing - and this type I call the show art, and it is a rural tradition practiced by the people of Upper Egypt at weddings and social occasions and the birth of Muslim personalities such as the birth of Abu Al-Hajjaj in Luxor and the birth of al-Arif in Sohag and the birth of Sidi Abd al-Rahim in the governorate of Qena, this type is the focus of dispute between writers, media professionals and scholars,,, Everyone wonders whether it is a dance, a popular game, or an art of martial arts??? In fact, this art is far from dancing because there is nothing in the dance called defense, attack, deception, evasion, hit-and-run and spontaneity in play, just as there is no dance in it either: courage, feet, chivalry and challenge, and there is also nothing in dance called peace with sticks in the form of a sign X, then a sprinkler, and harrowing and doors, for these reasons and others, it is far from dancing, and as close to martial arts as possible. It is known that the ancient battles were accompanied by drum machines and enthusiastic percussion to motivate the soldiers to victory and win battles, as for the movements and show jumps that The player performs it during the tahtab, the aim of which is to highlight the skill, soften the muscles and warm the body in preparation for the tahtab, to sum up: this type from my personal point of view is not a dance and it is not a martial art by 100%. 160 cm in diameter, as large as the fist of the hand of a full young man.

Al-Hatib is one of the methods of kinetic meditation:

Ahmed Rifai al-Azab, chief inspector of antiquities in the northern region of Qurna, says that tahtib in ancient Egypt was considered one of the methods of kinetic meditation. Al-Tahtib was the famous Sa’idiyyah, and al-Tahtib was in ancient Egypt one of the methods of kinetic meditation, which aims to reach a balance between the four bodies (the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual bodies), and as long as the left hemisphere of the brain is in a state of activity, the brain’s left hemisphere is in a state of activity.
