Oldest extant example of a Mandala of the Two Worlds in Japan, believed to be a faithful copy of the mandalas that Kūkai brought from Japan. One of two hanging scrolls (mandalas), gold and silver on dark bluish purple damask, 411.0 × 366.5 cm (161.8 × 144.3 in) (Diamond Realm Mandala), 446.4 × 406.3 cm (175.7 × 160.0 in) (Womb Realm Mandala). This image shows the mandala of the Diamond Realm. Located at Jingo-ji, Kyoto. These mandalas have been designated as National Treasures of Japan. |
