Summary edit
DescriptionTansies (Tanacetum vulgare) - geograph.org.uk - 542104.jpg |
English: Tansies (Tanacetum vulgare) Tansies when ingested are highly poisonous even in small amounts, and repeated contact with the plant can result in allergic skin reactions. Despite its nature, Greek mythology credits the herb with conferring immortality on Ganymede, the cupbearer of the gods, and its name derives from 'athanaton', the Greek word for immortal. Traditionally, Easter cakes made from Tansy leaves were eaten at the end of Lent.
Other names for the plant are Bitter Buttons, Hindheal and Parsley Fern. |
