Summary edit

Description While admiring the sheer natural beauty of nature, water and greenery around the wetlands reserve, it is all to easy to forget that the origins of the park date back thousands of years, dating back to 202-220 BC. The park has been refurbished and thrown open to the public only in 2005 so some of the historic relics in it are probably replicas. Here is some Taoist religious script on a stele fitted onto a platform in the distance. I'd first spotted steles like this in Vietnam- some of them are fitted on the back of turtles, as that animal represents longevity and permanence. This slab is simply fitted onto a stone platform though. We are now in the Xixi Wetlands Reserve in Hangzhou, China and detailed notes about the reserve appear in previous captions, earlier in this album. (Hangzhou, China, May 2017)
