Description
English: Tappoch or Torwood Broch April 2007 Only a bump on the highest point in Torwood, the site was excavated in 1864 by Colonel Joseph Dundas of Carronhall. He discovered an ‘ancient building at Tapock’, known to locals as ‘the Roman Camp’. Brochs (circular stone houses) were a popular form of dwelling over two thousand years ago but fell out of favour after the Roman occupation of Britain. I have seen a photograph of the Broch taken around the 1950’s and there has been some serious deterioration since then. You can read Col. Dundas’s report of the excavation at:
