Summary
editDescriptionTavistock Canal 1.JPG | Tavistock Canal, Lumburn Valley. The canal was used to transport ore from the Mary Tavy mines on eastern Dartmoor to the river Tamar and to import timber and coal. It is now used as a water supply for a hydro electric generating station on the banks of the river Tamar at Morwellham. The canal's waters flow south westward, entering the canal in Tavistock from the river Tavy. At Buckton the canal enters a tunnel under Morwel Down before emerging high above Morwellham. For more information see the Wikipedia article Tavistock Canal. |
