Description
English: Taymouth Castle Taymouth Castle was a stone 16th century Z-plan tower house, which has been absorbed in the construction of an early Victorian Gothic mansion. After the Great War the Breadalbane Estates were broken up and Taymouth was purchased by a hotel group and prior to WWII operated as a hotel, and it was at this time, the deer park was developed into a golf course. During WWII it was a convalescent home, after the war it became the headquarters for Civil Defence Training in Scotland and for a short period it was a school. The present owners have tried to ensure that the Castle is kept in good order but sadly modern safety regulations stop the Castle being opened to the public.
