Description
English: Pencil drawing of the temple near Bangalore, by Thomas and William Daniell, dated 1 May 1792. Inscribed on back in ink: '227. Near Bangalore'; in ink: 'Near Bangalore. May 1st, 1792'; in pencil: '15.'

This is a sketch of the Harihara temple and the great stone umbrella on the hill of Harihararayana Gudda, seen in the middle distance of the Gavipur view of Oriental Scenery V, 17 ('View near Bangalore'), but here from a different angle.

The Daniells wrote, "The neighbourhood of Bangalore is remarkable for the frequent appearance of the remains of antient Hindoo architecture. Nearly in the centre of this view is a temple, but at present without an idol. On the left is the Chackra or Discus of Vish-noo placed horizontally, supported by a pillar, both executed in stone...".
