Description
English: Small exhibit about building with limestone. The drawings on the wall are a design of a monument by Dutch architect Pierre Cuypers in Valkenburg, Limburg. The monument of local limestone ("mergel") was erected in 1889 in Grendelplein at the foot of the Cauberg hill in Valkenburg. It commemorated the 50th anniversary of Valkenburg (and most of the province of Limburg) being returned to the Netherlands after having been part of Belgium for 9 years. The monument was destroyed in 1954 when a Belgian coach crashed into it, killing 19 people. Local history collection of Museum Het Land van Valkenburg, Valkenburg, the Netherlands.
