Maluti lies on the Jharkhand - West Bengal border area and is near Shikaripara on Dumka - Rampurhat bus route. It is 16 km from Rampurhat railway station in West Bengal. Original name of the place is probably Mallahati, once a part of Malla kingdom of Bankura.
