English: The 'Tarf Hotel' bothy in 1978 I stopped for a brew here on a rather trying trip from Glen Tilt to Blair Atholl, where I encountered a lot of wet soft snow on the peaty moorland beyond here, eventually pitching the tent on snowy heather after a 10-hour day.
My notes about the bothy read: "Quite a roomy bothy. W corner of gable in bad repair, hole in roof and appeared to be dry rot or fungus in ceiling of room below - this room also had door off hinges, otherwise no obvious damage." It's in much better repair now, thanks to the efforts of the Mountain Bothies Association. |
