| Description |
English: The 16th hole at Galashiels Golf Course. This is a view from the front of the 16th tee down the steep 16th fairway on Galashiels Golf Course. This par four hole can be fairly easy in good weather conditions but a testing tee shot against a strong wind with out of bounds over the dyke on the left (by the 10th fairway on the way up) and a hillside of whins and bushes on the right to catch a wayward drive. The 16th and 9th greens sit just beyond the line of trees. The church with spire on the left is Old Parish and St Paul's Church with Galashiels Academy to the right surrounded by trees. The hill on the far right with the plantation on the summit is Meigle Hill. The holes on the second nine of the course are under threat of closure due to a dwindling membership and a lack of young people taking up the game.
Update on Galashiels Golf Course:- As from Sunday 2nd March 2008, the course ceased to be an 18 hole layout and has been reduced to 9 holes. As a result this hole and others on the top part of the course have been made redundant. For a full explanation of the move to 9 holes, see 716199. |
