Summary
editDescriptionThe Albert Memorial, Belfast (detail) - geograph.org.uk - 322822.jpg |
English: The Albert Memorial, Belfast (detail) The Albert memorial (commonly the Albert Clock), at the foot of High Street, dates from 1869. The design was chosen after a competition won by William J Barre (to the chagrin of Charles Lanyon). Due to the nature of the ground here it has become tilted. Substantial restoration work was undertaken and the tower emerged (still, and intentionally, tilted) from its sheeting in 2002. This statue depicts Prince Albert in the robes of a Knight of the Garter and is on the western side. |
