Description
English: The Alexander Mosaic, dating from circa 100 BC, is a Roman floor mosaic originally from the House of the Faun in Pompeii. It depicts a battle between the armies of Alexander the Great and Darius III of Persia and measures 2.72 x 5.13m (8 ft 11in x 16 ft 9in). The original is preserved in the Naples National Archaeological Museum. The mosaic is believed to be a copy of an early 3rd century BC Hellenistic painting, possibly by Philoxenos of Eretria.
Français : La mosaïque d'Alexandre, datant d'environ 100 avant J.-C., est une mosaïque de sol romaine provenant de la Maison du Faune à Pompéi. Elle représente une bataille entre les armées d'Alexandre le Grand et de Darius III de Perse et mesure 2,72 x 5,13 m (8 ft 11in x 16 ft 9in). L'original est conservé au musée archéologique national de Naples. La mosaïque serait une copie d'une peinture hellénistique du début du IIIe siècle avant J.-C., probablement réalisée par Philoxenos d'Érétrie.
