Summary
editDescriptionThe Alps blanketed in white after the first snowfall of the year (Copernicus).jpg |
English: Following the recent heatwave in Europe, the weather made a swift transition from summer to late autumn. The first snowfall of the season covered the Alps, the highest and most extensive mountain range in south-central Europe. Its peaks extend for 200 kilometres across Slovenia, Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein, Italy, Monaco, Switzerland, and France. This image, acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-3 satellites on 8 November, shows the snow cover on the Alps Mountain range. The Copernicus Land Monitoring Service product portfolio includes Snow & Ice (HR-S&I) Monitoring products, which provide high-resolution (20 m x 20 m) information derived from Copernicus satellites data on snow and ice conditions in the 38 Members States and Cooperating Countries of the European Environment Agency. |
