| Description |
English: The Baskerville Arms, Clyro For a small village, Clyro has its share of claims to fame. Francis Kilvert was a curate here for some years in the 19th century and described village life in his diaries. The Baskervilles were a prominent local family whose estate was sold off in the 1950s; it is believed that they were the inspiration for Arthur Conan Doyle's famous Hound of the Baskervilles story - although that, of course, was set on Dartmoor. The village inn has adopted the name and a suitable hound stands guard over the front door; the establishment was called the Swan in Kilvert's day. |
