The people in this village were greatly an-noyed by a robber baron who dwelt on a moun-tain near by, and who was in the habit of levy-ing tribute on them because he did nt like towork. The last time that he told them they mustpay what he called their annual dues, they re-fused to do so. The baron was greatly surprised—as people are usually surprised when othersrefuse to do things that they have been in the L.J.B. 7. habit of doing whether they ought to or not—and he resolved to punish the villagers.
