Summary
editDescriptionThe Castle of Licario in Euboea on August 28, 2021.jpg |
English: The knight Licario, was a second-generation crusader of Italian origin in the service of the Latin Triarch of Euboea, Giberto dalle Carceri. The Triarch had a sister, Felisa, with whom Licario fell in love. Felisa responded to his love but her relatives found the match inappropriate because Licario was poor. Licario became furious and began pillaging the territory of his master. Eventually, he offered his service to the Byzantine emperor Michael VIII Palaiologos. As his commander, he reconquered Euboea and saw Giberto dalle Carceri in chains before the throne of the Byzantine emperor. For his services, he was given Euboea as his feud. His residence was the castle in the picture which stands over the modern-day village of Fylla. The locals call it Kastelli but they do not know anything else about it. It dates to the 13th century. |
