Description
English: Charles Duell, the head of Inspiration Pictures, arranged to screen the American drama film The Cave Girl (1921) for the first time at governor's mansion in New York, June 1921. The governor had recently spearheaded legislation that resulted in the formation of New York's Motion Picture Commission, a committee tasked with the censorship of films. This photograph shows attendees of the screening included president of Inspiration Pictures Charles H. Duell, director (but not of this film) Henry King, New York Governor Nathan L. Miller, Secretary of the Navy Theodore Roosevelt Jr., and actor Richard Barthelmess. Duell, King, and Barthelmess co-founded Inspiration Pictures. The caption states that Governor Miller gave his stamp of approval to the film. On page 72 of the July 16, 1921 Exhibitors Herald.
